Point Roberts Community Chest

Purpose:

The Point Roberts Community Chest (PRCC) exists to provide a lasting source of community funding that benefits Point Roberts and its residents. PRCC’s goal is to build long-term charitable resources and distribute grants equitably to support local programs, projects, and initiatives. These grants are currently designed to help provide supplemental financial assistance beyond what groups raise from  Fundraising. Grants must currently go to directly to 501c3 organizations who are on Point Roberts or who provide support directly to Point Roberts. Grants may also go through local 501c3 groups for events and programs that they sponsor but may not fit their mandate.

Instead of forming a standalone foundation, PRCC operates as a Committee-Advised Fund through the Whatcom Community Foundation (WCF). This arrangement allows PRCC to accept tax-deductible donations and maintain community input over how funds are distributed, while WCF manages the financial and legal administration of the fund. 

Mission:

The mission of the Point Roberts Community Chest Funds is to support programs, projects and initiatives that enhance the lives of those living in Point Roberts, Washington. We meet this mission by focusing our granting priorities in the following areas:

• Meeting basic human needs

• Supporting education and creative endeavors

• Expanding recreation and community activities

• Encouraging economic sustainability

• Preserving the local environment

• Strengthening the identity and vitality of Point Roberts

Our Funds:

PRCC advisory committee operates two funds held at Whatcom Community Foundation:

1.    Endowed Fund: Exists in perpetuity where donated assets contribute to the fund’s corpus and only earnings are used for grants. The WCF board of directors approves the annual distribution for endowments (usually around 4%) each November and the funds are available for use in January by the advisory committee.

2.    Non-Endowed Fund: Can be spent down and replenished as needed. There is no annual fund balance required. Money in this fund can be used for immediate granting needs without needing to wait for an annual distribution.

How To Donate:

All donations are tax deductible from the Whatcom Community Foundation. We recommend that smaller donations go into the Non-Endowed fund to have a more immediate impact and larger donations be split between both funds so you can help us grow our philanthropy.
